Layaway: Why?

Sunday, January 4, 2009

Whose idea was layaway?? Look people, if you can't pay for something up front, that probably means YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT! Now don't get me wrong, there are certain things that are acceptable to be paid for in installments: furniture sets (the good ones, I'm not talking IKEA, people), cars, homes (mortgages, rent), and tuition (a college education can be expensive these days). But when you have to save up for an article of clothing, skimping on food and other necessities, one thing becomes quite clear: You're broke.

What's saddest is when ignorant Negroes are putting things on layaway, it's not at high-end retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, or Gucci, oh no no no. It's at the "hood stores" like Jimmy Jazz and Dr. Jay's. Now I could possibly turn a blind eye to someone who had to put a gown purchase from Neiman Marcus on layaway because it's $700, and it's for a wedding that isn't hers, let's say. But what DOESN'T make sense is when the street urchins (aka ignorant Negroes) have to pay a $70 Lacoste Polo or $100 Rocawear jacket in monthly installments. Even when it's finally paid off, and they put on the polo underneath the jacket, can they really feel like they're "ballin' out of control"? No! Why? Because they're poor. They were poor before donating blood, collecting cans, and doing nut-a** dance routines on the subway to pay for the items, and they're even POORER now. NewsFlash: Items being sold in the "hood stores" don't count as expensive in the grand scheme of things. If you don't believe me, let me know how many times you've seen Jay-Z or Diddy going on shopping sprees in the hood stores. Don't worry, I'll wait......

What the urchins don't understand is that people that are wealthy, rich, ballers, or just have truly padded bank accounts don't have to save to buy clothes and shoes. They can simply walk into a store, purchase what they want ONE TIME (no need for multiple trips), and then walk out. They don't have to empty their bank accounts for the clothes and then use Food Stamps, WIC Checks, and coins to pay for their other expenses.

Lesson to Be Learned: To put it in children's terms, layaway is for poor people. If you're an urchin using layaway for a Burberry polo from last season's Off-Saks Fifth Avenue rack, you're poor too.
